Terms of use
What you may do with the guide, and what it is and isn't. If you use the guide, you agree to these terms.
What the guide is
The Workplace Field Guide is this website, its sheets, its PDFs and its videos. Calibrated Leadership publishes it from Ontario, Canada.
What you may do
- Read the sheets, print them and write on them.
- Share a sheet, unchanged, with the people you work with. That includes your own team and your own staff.
- Use the sheets in meetings, one-on-ones and training inside your own organization.
- Quote a short passage, as long as you name the guide as the source.
What we ask you not to do
- Don't post the sheets where the public can reach them.
- Don't sell them. Don't use them in work you're paid to do for another organization, unless we've agreed to it in writing.
- Don't change them, and don't remove the copyright line.
- Don't share your sign-in. Access is for the person it was given to.
If you'd like to do something these terms don't cover, email hello@workplacefieldguide.com and ask.

These terms don't take away anything that copyright law already allows you to do.
General guidance
The guide is general guidance about working with people. It isn't legal, HR, labour relations, medical or psychological advice.
Your organization's policies, your collective agreement, your quality system and the law come first. If a sheet disagrees with one of them, the sheet gives way.
Before you act on something that could affect a person's job, health or rights, talk to the right person. That may be HR, labour relations, a union representative, a lawyer or a doctor.
It's a model
The guide is a model, built from published research and lab experience. It hasn't been tested as a measure. A self-check result is a first read, and it's yours alone.
Keep results out of ratings, files, discipline, hiring, promotion, probation, casework authorization, assignments and references. Don't use the guide to assess someone applying for a job.
If something is weighing on you
The guide doesn't replace care. Your Employee Assistance Program, a counsellor or your doctor can help. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.
The examples
The examples in the sheets are made up, or blended from many situations. None describes a real person, lab or case.
Independent work
The guide is the author's own work. It doesn't speak for any employer, lab or agency.
No guarantee
We work to keep the guide accurate and useful, and we update it from what readers tell us. Even so, it's offered as it is. We can't promise that it's free of errors, or that it fits your situation. We may change it or take it down at any time.
You decide how to use it. As far as the law allows, Calibrated Leadership and the author aren't responsible for loss or harm that comes from using the guide or relying on it.
Early access and your feedback
The full guide is open by request while it's in early access. We may end someone's access, for example if these terms aren't followed.
If you rate a sheet or send a note, we may use what you say to improve the guide. How we handle your details explains what we store.
Which law applies
These terms follow the laws of Ontario, and the laws of Canada that apply there.
Changes and questions
We may update these terms. The date below shows the latest version, and What's new notes any change that matters. Send questions to hello@workplacefieldguide.com.
